Service Description

INSTRUCTOR: Akiva Meola In this class, Akiva will introduce the fundamentals of not only blade forging, which includes forging tapers, using fullers, and forging blades to dimension. Alongside the blacksmithing aspect, you will also learn about grinding, proper edge geometry, and the basics of hardening and tempering. By the end of the class, you should be heading home with your own finished integral knife! Akiva has been forging for 10 years now, and works primarily as a bladesmith. With a specialty in forged-finish culinary knives, Akiva takes a lot of inspiration from Japanese methodology and tradition, along with his own personal taste for compound curves, forge texture, and sculpted handles. As a full time bladesmith, Akiva forges, grinds, polishes and handles sculpts each knife individually. His knives can be found at purveyors like Element Knife Co, Carbon Knife co, and have been featured on Tasting History with Max Miller. Akiva also has experience in the architectural/decorative blacksmithing world, having worked with Otto Engel of innovation forge on large scale forged railings and decorative elements. Outside of work, Akiva loves camping, fencing, history, fantasy books, anything with peanut butter or chocolate, and supporting his roller derby wife!
