Service Description
INSTRUCTOR: Akiva Meola In this class, we will learn the in depth, foundational knowledge about forging a hidden tang chef knife. This will provide the skills necessary to make a variety of kitchen knives. Students will spend the first day learning to forge, profile, and rough grind their blades, and the following day will take them through learning how to fit up and sculpt a hidden tang handle. This will be technically challenging, but should be quite rewarding! Akiva has been forging for 10 years now, and works primarily as a bladesmith. With a specialty in forged-finish culinary knives, Akiva takes a lot of inspiration from Japanese methodology and tradition, along with his own personal taste for compound curves, forge texture, and sculpted handles. As a full time bladesmith, Akiva forges, grinds, polishes and handles sculpts each knife individually. His knives can be found at purveyors like Element Knife Co, Carbon Knife co, and have been featured on Tasting History with Max Miller. Akiva also has experience in the architectural/decorative blacksmithing world, having worked with Otto Engel of innovation forge on large scale forged railings and decorative elements. Outside of work, Akiva loves camping, fencing, history, fantasy books, anything with peanut butter or chocolate, and supporting his roller derby wife! For specialty classes, cancellations must take place at least 48 hours in advance for a full refund. No exceptions. This class is held irregularly, and therefore rescheduling will not be available. This class has a 2 person minimum to meet our costs. We reserve the right to cancel this class at any time. A full refund will be given to all persons that have signed up for a class that has been cancelled.
