You'll learn some of the foundations of metalsmithing by crafting a beautiful, one-of-a-kind, keepsake box. Elevate your metalworking skills in this beginner-to-intermediate workshop. Working with versatile copper, you will learn to fabricate a sleek, cylindrical container topped with a tension-fit lid. This hands-on class guides you through the process of customizing your form, leaving you with a handcrafted heirloom perfect for protecting your most meaningful treasures. We Will Cover: -Measuring for three dimensional objects -Basic three dimensional design -Multilevel soldering techniques -Sawing and filing -Texturing metal -Forming basics -Polishing and finishing LEVEL: Beginner PRE-REQUISITES: None OPEN STUDIO QUALIFIER: Yes DURATION: 4 hours (approx.) CAPACITY: 8 people OUR GUEST INSTRUCTOR: Liz honed her skills while earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in small metals and sculpture. Inspired by the world around her, she continued her education with a Masters in Cultural Studies. Liz’s extensive experience in metal work includes welding, blacksmithing, and a career in sculpture conservation, including working at the Smithsonian. Her teaching background ranges from first grade art classes to private jewelry lessons and has spanned over a decade. Liz is the owner and creator behind Covert Metals, a one-woman, LGBT+ metalworking studio located in Denver, Colorado that has roots reaching from New York to Texas.
